The reader asked for a finer-grained view of the city-by-city comparison of crime across the US, segmented by population size and normalized to crime rate per capita. We provide that below for Property Crime (Burglary + Larceny + Motor Vehicle theft) and Violent Crime (Aggravated Assualt + Robbery + Rape + Murder).
If most dots are below you, that’s a bad thing. SF, about twice the population of Oakland, records about half the murders that Oakland endures, year in and year out. So size isn’t everything. It might have something to do with a disparity in policing. SFPD has 2,000 cops, Oakland 711. Excellent site. I would be happy to buy the paid version. Please advise.
Thank you, and a very kind of you!! For now it is strictly a free publication. It is solely operated with the volunteer hours of folks who just want to live in a better Oakland.
Beautiful job! Probably a lot of work, but adding Berkeley and possibly other Bay area cities would be helpful.
