Another Oakland City Hall classic. More than 2 years after everyone in government jobs had to go back. And April 7th? Seriously?

(My favorite quote: "and, in some cases, use of work hours for personal matters.")

Meanwhile, the City Council, instead of scaling back it's bloated, inefficient, politically stacked staff and expenses, is poised to make its biggest layoffs in the two most essential services - and seriously lacking here - for any municipal government: Police and Public Works.

Perhaps the next "parcel" (i.e. property) tax increase should go to psychiatric help for these folks.

If you aren’t already nauseated enough, consider that the city’s payroll has increased 60% since 2019. With respect to the measures being considered to address the budget calamity (i.e., cutting the ONLY things that absolutely should not be cut), the Oakland City Council has taken incompetence to previously-inconceivable levels.

Should have required this years ago and 5 days a week.

Why not 5 days per week? 4 days means we are paying 100% for 80% (if that) effort.

I can understand if people have to arrange for childcare but April to come back to the office? That sucks! I don't like how you're spending my money. You need to do so much better immediately

It's curious that this long-overdue directive is only coming after Thao was recalled. Just wondering if she was preventing Jestin Johnson from issuing it, or if he is feeling on the hot seat now and stepping up.

Color me cynical, but I'd guess this was a chickensht way to avoid going thru the layoff process with severance etc.

Wrong, as usual, Lenny. They definitely trying to lay off folks regardless of work-from-home status.
